A group of sovereign citizens have stormed several councils, demanding that they halt their operations and declare them demilitarized zones.
The group known as Nmdaka Dalai Australis believes the Australian government is illegitimate and “should resign” and recently shared videos of members providing “DMZ documentation” to council officials.
Nmdaka Dalai Australis translates to “Our Southern Lands,” according to the group’s website, which claims to represent the indigenous people who have “supreme authority over all our lands.”
Member Rocco Varty appears in some of the videos shared on Sunday, which featured him at Sydney’s Inner West Council, Burwood Council, Canterbury Bankstown Council and Strathfield Council.
The video caption explains that Mr. Varty is serving up “First Nations Docs” and a “National Notice” written by fellow sovereign citizen Glen Short, who goes by “Patriot 101.”

The group also confronted Gympie Regional Council CEO Robert Jennings in Queensland on March 24, who accepted the documents and thanked the group for their approach.
The group also claims to have given the DMZ documents to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Police, the Federal and State Governments and the NT Attorney General.
Video of Mr Varty at Canterbury-Bankstown Council shows him handing a series of documents to a surprised staff member.
“I have documents here,” he says to the employee manning the counter.
“The proclamation made this on February 4, 2024… for the establishment of the demilitarized zone, the DMZ.
“The prison court, senior law elders and the council in a circle, together with the first law chief and the provost marshal… the bottom line is that you are operating and aiding and encouraging a military force.
“While the First Nations… the tribe of the Nmdaka Dalai, they declare that you cease your operations of imposing a foreign military force and crimes against humanity.”
The municipal employees tell him that he will pass on the documents.
However, commenters on the video were not convinced.
“The man behind the counter did well not to burst out laughing,” said one.
‘Wow, so well executed. Those papers will definitely be taken seriously,” wrote another.
The group claims to have served similar documents to the federal government
A press release from Nmdaka Dalai Australis explains what they are aiming for with the demilitarized zone.
“There will no longer be any enforcement, detention, detention, arrest, incarceration or prosecution through the use of weapons on our land,” the press release said.
‘Peace will reign.
‘All agents of companies (such as courts, police, councils, judiciary, individuals, military, corrections et al.) may not arm themselves with weapons, handcuffs, tasers, ‘sprays’ or similar weapons (list not exhaustive), unless authorized by Nmdaka Dalai Tribal Council.
“Anyone who continues to enforce this system will be prosecuted under international law.”
