Nintendo announces new gaming hardware: an alarm clock!

Nintendo will release a new piece of gaming hardware in 2024. It’s not the Switch 2, it’s the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, a new motion-sensitive alarm clock that wakes you up with the sounds of video games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildand more.

The $99.99 alarm clock features 35 wake-up scenes from Nintendo Switch games. Users will experience “immersive sounds and music” from those scenes, which are styled to fit Nintendo’s franchises. Alarmo will also track users’ sleep and movement; Records keep track of how much you move, similar to the Pokémon Go Plus Plus sleep tracker that Nintendo released Pokémon Go/Pokémon sleep (and the long-promised but apparently abandoned QOL project).

Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo will include various alarm settings, Nintendo said in a press release. The clock’s Steady mode features an alarm that gradually becomes more intense the longer you stay in bed. Gentle mode offers “a more consistent level of intensity.” And Button Mode is a classic snooze button mode, where you have to hit Alarmo to silence it. Nintendo’s new interactive, motion-sensitive alarm clock also features ‘sleepy sounds’: soothing music that will hopefully lull you to sleep at night.

Nintendo’s new alarm clock features scenes from Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon3, Pikmin 4And Ring Fit Adventure. And if you have a Nintendo Account and link it to your Alarmo, you can download additional scenes Mario Kart 8 Deluxe And Animal Crossing: New Horizons later for free.

Alarmo is available for buy directly from Nintendobut only for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Nintendo will sell the Alarmo at retail starting in early 2025, the company said.
