Social media erupts over Nine News employee caught watching Shrek on live broadcast: ‘He’s living the dream’
An employee of Channel Nine’s newsroom in Melbourne was caught this week watching a children’s film in the middle of a live bulletin.
The employee watched Shrek on a desk monitor as reporter Gillian Lantouris delivered a report on a missing Melbourne woman.
A TikTok user recorded the blunder on TV and uploaded the footage on Wednesday.
The male staffer can be seen in the background in the studio, over Lantouris’s shoulder, watching the film – which was most likely not work related.
The TikTok video has garnered more than 66,000 likes, with many social media users saying the man was “living the dream.”

“Finally news we can rely on,” said one of them. Another wrote: “A man of the people.”
“He’s living the dream,” said one TikTok user, while another simply dismissed the gaffe as someone “bored with his job.”
Eagle-eyed TikTokers believe the man was watching the short film “Shrek Karaoke Dance Party,” from the 2001 VHS release of the first movie.

The clip was also included in the DVD release of the movie.
Shrek, an animated film from DreamWorks, was first released in 2001 and starred Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, among others.
It grossed $491 million worldwide and spawned three sequels and two spin-offs, including Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022).
Shrek was also the basis for a Broadway show, Shrek the Musical, in 2008.
