Nine News crew watches on in horror as a hammer-wielding man allegedly attempts broad daylight car-jacking in Melbourne

The terrifying moment a man armed with a hammer allegedly tried to steal a Jeep in broad daylight was caught on camera.

A Nine News crew was on Victoria Street in Richmond, Melbourne, on Monday when a man allegedly began threatening two drivers in their late model Jeeps.

Footage showed the man swinging the hammer at the two drivers before getting into one of the vehicles.

Shortly afterwards, however, he gets out of the Jeep and is unable to start it.

The man then appears to casually walk away before returning to smash the windows of one of the cars.

According to Nine newsBystanders who witnessed the incident called it ‘shocking’ and ‘frightening’.

Victoria Police confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with the incident, but no charges have been laid so far.

A spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that “a male driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.”

Investigations are underway.
