Channel Nine Brisbane viewers spot incredible phenomenon in background of Garry Youngberry’s weather forecast
Channel Nine viewers were stunned when they saw a meteor fall from the sky just before the evening news ended.
Queensland weatherman Garry Youngberry was giving the weather forecast for the deciding State of Origin match in Brisbane on Wednesday night when a meteor lit up the sky behind him.
Youngberry, dressed in a warm burgundy outfit, warned Origin fans heading to Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium to wrap up warm to protect themselves from the unusually cold 8 degree wind.
A few seconds after he made his prediction, the shooting star fell from the sky.
Nine later shared a video of the spectacular moment online after she was spotted in the newsroom.
Even attentive viewers noticed it during the broadcast.
“My 10 year old son tried to tell me he saw that behind him (Youngberry) and I was like ‘pfft! No you didn’t!’ Hahahaha,” one person wrote.
Another added: ‘I saw this at Greenbank. So amazing.’

A third wrote: ‘Well how about this? A meteor while watching a meteorologist.’
Other commentators joked that the meteor’s blue-green flash was a sign that New South Wales were on course for victory, as the Blues beat Queensland 14-4 to clinch the series.
The Blues’ first series win in three years came in dramatic fashion, with a touchline brawl, a scapegoating the likes of which has never been seen in Origin before and the 19th man being sent off, all against the backdrop of one of the most physical games either team has ever played.
“All of Queensland will be blue. Go the Blues,” wrote one commentator.
