Nigella Lawson divides fans as she decorates her kooky Christmas tree with BACON – after being unveiled as the festive face of Greggs

She has made headlines for her weird and wacky trends in the kitchen.

Now Nigella Lawson has revealed she will be decorating her tree with bacon this year, ditching the turkey for slices.

On Sunday evening, the award-winning chef, 64, shared images of her newly decorated holiday tree with her followers.

Decorated with several pink slices of bacon, she said: ‘Behold my beautiful bacon-decorated tree!’.

Promising fans they weren’t real, she confirmed, “Since I recently posted a recipe for edible Christmas tree ornaments, you might think I hung real slices of crispy, streaky bacon on my tree this year.” but these are actually real ornaments – and I love them!

“A while ago I started giving one food-focused ornament a year to a friend, and it’s grown into a lovely tradition, I think – the Christmas equivalent of charms for a bracelet.”

In response, a fan asked what was at the top of her tree this year, to which she replied: ‘My KitchenAid whisk attachment!’.

Since posting and tagging the £14.99 small ornaments, they have sold out on the Sous Chef website.

Other fans were quick to reveal how much they loved the decorations: “They’re fantastic, and I absolutely love food-centric Christmas decorations,” said one fan.

Another fan said: ‘Nigella, no one would judge you for actually putting bacon on your tree… I think we would probably love you even more…’.

Her festivities come after Lawson was spotted with a new mystery man last month.

The pair were pictured having dinner together in London.

Mrs Lawson was married to journalist John Diamond before he tragically died aged 47 from throat cancer.

Three years after John’s death, Nigella married wealthy art collector and advertising agency founder Charles Saatchi in 2003. But their marriage ended after ten years.

Despite her love for bacon, Mrs Lawson has signed up to be the face of Greggs bakery this Christmas.

Although she has agreed to film an advert for the brand, the star reportedly will not be endorsing the brand’s famous sausage rolls.

The chain’s festive menu is usually highly anticipated. The mince pies are already in stores, but it is not yet known when the seasonal pastries will go on sale.

And this year they might just sell like hotcakes, as Nigella has an impeccable reputation when it comes to driving sales.

When she recommended goose fat as essential for the perfect roast potato in 2006, sales at Waitrose and Tesco doubled. And after using plums in a recipe in Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen, Waitrose said sales of the dried fruit increased by 30 per cent.

Nigella and Greggs may have more in common than meets the eye, as they both enjoy unparalleled culinary success. Earlier this year, Greggs topped the poll for being the most popular fast food chain in Britain, with its legendary sausage roll leading the way.

Nigella also has a popular sausage roll recipe, which includes chestnuts, nutmeg and dried sage.

With eleven cooking bestsellers since her first hit How To Eat in 1998, she also has several successful TV shows to her name, including Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen.

Her statements about food and housework always attract attention: she never irons, she has admitted, prefers chocolate cake to Christmas cake, and was once ridiculed for (intentionally) mispronouncing microwave as “meecrowahvay.”

She recently divided the nation when she revealed that she liked to eat anything in bed that could be consumed with her fingers or a spoon.

Whether that will extend to Greggs sausage rolls this Christmas is anyone’s guess.
