Last month, Joel, who shot to fame with his band Good Charlotte, opened up about how “lucky” he feels to be married to his longtime wife.

The couple met in 2006 at a mutual friend's party.

After more than a decade of marriage, the singer described his wife as “beautiful” and his “queen” while appearing on the Tamron Hall Show.

While reflecting on their 17-year relationship, Madden said Richie is “the best partner.”

“I feel happy,” the father of two said enthusiastically, explaining how to build a solid partnership.

“I try to tell my kids to be yourself and love yourself because it took me a long time to learn that,” he opened up.

He continued, “You can also put yourself out there in the wrong way, so you have to love yourself first, and I think you have to put yourself out there in the right way.”

During a 2014 episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now? told Richie that she and Madden “were partners from day one.”

“And the moment we found out we were going to be parents together, we looked at each other and said, 'Okay, our parents are both divorced. We've both had ups and downs with our parents and we don't 'I have a really strong example of what a healthy family life is,'” she said, adding, “But we recognize that now, so let's get to it work and let's go through this together as a team.”

On The Drew Barrymore Show last month, Joel attributed their long-term relationship in part to couples therapy.

“We're going to therapy,” he said with a smile, after host Drew complimented the pair for “working on themselves.”

He continued, “I don't think we're perfect either…I think we're all human.”
