Nicole Richie, 42, congratulates sister Sofia Richie on birth of daughter Eloise with husband Elliott Grainge as she declares: ‘I now have a new favorite EG’

Nicole Richie is celebrating the birth of her younger sister Sofia Richie’s first child.

On Friday it was revealed that Sofia, 25, and her husband Elliott Grainge, 30, had welcomed a baby girl named Eloise Samantha Grainge on May 20.

Nicole — whose own children recently made their red carpet debut with her — quickly responded to Sofia’s birth announcement on Instagram.

‘I now have a new favorite EG. Sorry Elliot,” the Simple Life star, 42, wrote of her new niece.

Nicole is the eldest of music legend Lionel Richie’s three children. He and his ex-wife Brenda Harvey adopted Nicole when she was nine years old.

After divorcing Brenda in 1993, Lionel married and welcomed two children – Sofia and brother Miles, 29 – with now ex Diane Alexander.

Many of Sofia’s closest friends also shared their love. “Congratulations,” Kylie Jenner wrote, while Lily Collins added: “Omg what a name!! I’m so happy for you.’

Emily Ratajkowski added, “Eloise! congratulations,” and Ashley Tisdale said, “Omg the sweetest name!!”

Mother-to-be Hailey Bieber, who is due to give birth at the end of August, wrote, “Congratulations.”

Sofia revealed Eloise’s birth on Friday by posting a photo of Emma Bassill of her and Elliot holding their baby’s feet.

“Eloise Samantha Grainge 5×20×24 best day of my life,” the caption read. Vanessa Lachey and Paris Jackson hit the like button.

Sofia and Elliot had been acquaintances for several years before they started dating in early 2021.

They got engaged in 2022 and married in 2023.

Their April 2022 wedding was lavish with a star-studded ceremony that took place in the south of France.

Sofia revealed her pregnancy to the public during an interview with Fashion which was published in January.

She also said she would welcome a girl.

The model was previously linked to both Justin Bieber and Scott Disick before settling down with Grainge, a British record executive.

Richie had “a breakdown” before she gave birth, her father Lionel said last week.

The 74-year-old singer revealed on the 19th that as Sofia’s due date got closer, she became more and more nervous.

He told Extra: ‘My life is so full now. My baby is having a baby now, what’s going on? Elliot and Sofia are about to have a nervous breakdown, but I told her to calm down. I say, ‘When the baby comes, you might have a nervous breakdown!’ It’s just a great time!’

The American Idol judge is already a grandfather to Harlow, 16, and Sparrow, 14, through his adoptive daughter Nicole Richie, but is excited to experience the feeling of becoming a grandparent again, as he admitted he was “over the moon” and thinks parenthood will be the ultimate ‘adventure’ for Sofia and her husband, he shared a few days ago.

He said, ‘Sure, let me tell you something, we all love it. I’m over the moon and trying to stay calm. I’m just so excited.

‘I’m sure this will be the adventure of a lifetime for them!’

The Hello singer – who has Sofia with ex-wife Diane Alexander and also has son Miles, 29, with her – recently admitted it was surreal to discover the model is expecting her own baby.

He said, “I’m watching my baby have a baby. Yes! I mean, that just scared me a little bit. But at the same time, Elliot and Sofia are such a force. This little baby is going to be performed like you’ve never seen before. It is awesome.’

Sofia was “so excited and anxious” to become a mother, a source said in April.

An insider claimed that the couple had prepared the nursery early.

The source told Us Weekly: “The theme is pastel pink and neutral tones. It’s very cozy. so excited and eager to see her and be here. Elliot has been there for her and really supported her through this journey.

‘He is very practical, always makes sure she gets what she needs, makes appointments with her and loves to drive her around.’
