Nicole Kidman tears up on the red carpet following the death of her mother Janelle – as she reveals shock weight loss

Nicole Kidman made a tearful confession as she revealed her shocking weight loss at the season two premiere of Special Ops: Lioness in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Australian actress, 57, became emotional as she opened up about the recent death of her mother Janelle and acknowledged she was having a difficult time grieving.

“I wish my mother was here,” she said The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet.

‘It’s been difficult. It’s a difficult road. I’m hanging in there.’

Kidman’s mother Janelle died last month at the age of 84.

The Oscar-winning star also showed off her shocking weight loss on the red carpet, daringly modeling a backless top with draped neck and a bright yellow midi skirt with jagged, dramatic pleats.

The look showed off her very thinning body, including her torso and slender arms.

Along with her chic outfit, Kidman was dripping in diamonds in the form of beautiful jewelry from Roberto Coin.

She wore stunning chunky hoop earrings paired with matching white gold and diamond rings.

She paired her striking ensemble with white pointed-toe pumps, Mary Jane straps and bright red bottoms.

She has her strawberry blonde locks pulled back into a polished, half up, half down style.

Kidman turned up the glamor with a dewy facial makeup look and a sultry, smoky eye, finished with a juicy pink gloss.

She brought along a black blazer coat, which she occasionally carried in her hand as she posed on the red carpet.

Janelle died just hours before Nicole was named Best Actress for her role in Babygirl on the final day of the Venice Film Festival.

“Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed away,” Nicole revealed in a statement read by director Halina Reijn after her win.

‘I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me and she made me.

“I am beyond grateful to be able to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken. We love you all.”

A week later, Nicole broke her silence and made a heartbreaking Instagram statement alongside some never-before-seen photos of the matriarch.

In her post, the Perfect Couple star thanked her millions of fans and supporters for expressing their condolences during their time of grieving.

“My sister and I, along with our family, would like to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” Nicole wrote in the joint statement.

“Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we can ever express. Thank you from our entire family for respecting our privacy while caring for each other.”

Nicole has long had an incredibly close relationship with her beloved mother Janelle and has often spoken about her support and influence on her career over the years.

Nicole was born in Honolulu and raised in Sydney by Janelle and her psychologist father Antony, who died in September 2014.

After spending time in the United States, the Moulin Rouge star and her younger sister Antonia spent much of their childhood in Sydney.

Nicole pursued her passion for acting when she was a teenager and was supported by both her parents as she achieved worldwide fame.

Both remained heavily involved in her career over the years, with Nicole often admitting that she would still go to her mother for advice.

Nicole had an equally close relationship with her father Antony and was left devastated when he died of a heart attack in September 2014 aged 75.

The Oscar-winning actress previously revealed that her father’s ‘sudden’ death, as well as a series of other losses, had affected her deeply.

‘Death came to me as something very sudden. I didn’t put anyone through a slow death, I just had people kidnapped,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2020.

‘I’ve been through it repeatedly now, I almost get scared when I say it because I’m terrified it will happen again. I still have a lot of fear about that.’
