Nicole Kidman has opened up about how she thinks it’s ‘lazy’ to rely solely on chemistry when casting lovers after her steamy sex scenes with Zac Efron were revealed.

The Australian actress, 56, was asked about Anne Hathaway’s experience of being told to ‘make out’ with potential co-stars as part of audition chemistry tests in the 2000s.

Nicole said she thinks it’s “lazy” to rely solely on chemistry between actors and urged directors to guide them through intimate scenes.

She said Hollywood Reporter Drama Actresses Roundtable: ‘There’s a way to photograph things, I think it’s lazy to just rely on chemistry. There’s the writing, there’s the interaction – you can literally be guided through it.’

“Plus, you can’t have chemistry, and on screen it’s created,” she added.

The comments come after Nicole starred in a racy nude sex scene with Zac Efron in the recently released trailer for Netflix rom-com A Family Affair

During the group interview, Nicole also passionately agreed with Jennifer Aniston when she talked about how “awkward” it is to kiss a stranger during an audition.

Jennifer said, “If you’re in an audition room, you’re already at a disadvantage. Maybe you would have good chemistry with this person if you were in a different environment, and not like, “Create chemistry. Finished? Go! “‘

The comments come after Nicole starred in a racy nude sex scene with Zac Efron in the recently released trailer for Netflix rom-com A Family Affair.

In the film, out June 28, Nicole’s character embarks on a steamy affair with her daughter Zara’s boss (Joey King), played by younger Zac, 36.

The trailer shows off some steamy scenes between the pair, with Nicole stripping naked and sharing a sexy encounter with Zac during their characters’ affair.

“I’ve been waiting for you forever,” Zac’s character said breathlessly as they undressed and kissed passionately.

Zac recently opened up about filming the intimate scenes with Nicole, describing their on-screen chemistry as “seamless, natural and fun.”
