Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have one of the longest-lasting marriages in Hollywood.

The actress, 57, and the country singer, 56, have been married for 18 years and have two daughters: Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13.

While I was interviewing her friend Victoria Beckham – which celebrates its 25th anniversary with David Beckham – for Vogue Australiathe Oscar winner shared the best relationship advice she’s ever received.

“The best advice I got was that there is an individual – so there is the me and the you – and there is the we. And that is just you,” she revealed.

The Big Little Lies star continued, “No one else has what you two create, or what Keith and I create. Every married couple that’s together, every person that chooses to be in a relationship together, creates this, so we determine what this is.”

She added: ‘If you really like someone, really love them, but also really like them, then that helps.’

The A Family Affair actress also stressed the importance of compromise – a good rule to follow in any relationship, whether romantic or platonic.

‘Also compromises. A lot. It’s always trial and error, and sometimes it’s out of balance and then it comes back into balance… We don’t brag about it.

“People always ask, ‘What’s your marriage advice?’ We don’t have any! Everyone does their own thing and creates it. I’m not a relationship guru. I just try to find my own way,” Kidman said.

The Big Little Lies actress went on to talk about what makes a healthy relationship, sounding like a wise therapist.

‘Normal emotions of fear and uncertainty – you don’t have to suppress or deny them. They are allowed to be there, but you can work through them.

‘I tell my daughters that too: a lot happens behind closed doors. But you always have to go, can I get through the discomfort? Because the expectation that everything is always great just doesn’t exist.

“A lot of things will happen on a journey together and it’s beautiful and that’s okay,” she concluded.
