Nicole Kidman reveals she had special clause put in film contract for nude sex scenes with her real-life then husband Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman has revealed she had a special clause written into her film contract regarding her steamy sex scenes with her real-life husband Tom Cruise.

The Australian actress, 57, famously starred alongside her then-husband Tom, 62, in Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut.

The couple shared some steamy moments in front of the camera and Nicole was even asked to do full frontal nudity in the sex scenes, a concept she wasn’t exactly convinced about.

In a resurfaced interview, Nicole said she wrote a clause into her movie contract that she would see all her nude scenes before they made it into the final cut.

The Hollywood star said she didn’t want people to make fun of her for the nude scenes and felt protected because director Stanley included the clause in her contract.

“When I started working with Stanley Kubrick, he said, ‘I want full frontal nudity,’ and I was like, ‘Ahh, I don’t know,’” she said. The New York Times Magazine in 2020.

‘So we came to a nice agreement, which was contractual. He showed me the scenes with nudity before they made it into the movie.

‘Then I could feel completely safe. I didn’t say no to anything. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t the one standing there naked and everyone was laughing at me.

‘I was protected, so I got to explore a complicated marriage and the way Tom [Cruise’s] character has those jealous images.’

In Eyes Wide Shut, Tom stars as Dr. Bill Hartford, whose marriage to his wife Alice (Nicole) runs into trouble when he obsessively thinks about possible infidelity.

During a brief estrangement, he wanders the streets of New York City before becoming entangled in the dark games of the upper elites.

The film includes a famous sequence in which Tom’s character gains entry to a ball for wealthy masked men to indulge their sexual fantasies, before realizing he is in grave danger.

At the time of filming, Nicole and Tom were married in real life, having started dating after meeting on the set of the 1990 film Days Of Thunder.

Nicole previously said that Stanley “mined” their marriage looking for material to make Eyes Wide Shut, which became a box office hit after grossing $162 million against a $65 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.

Nicole and Tom tied the knot in December 1990 and adopted two children during their marriage: a daughter Isabella, 31, and a son Connor, 29.

However, Tom filed for divorce in 2001, citing irreconcilable differences and photos of Nicole celebrating as she left her lawyer’s office after finalizing their divorce became famous.

The following year, Nicole opened up about her painful breakup with Tom in an interview with DuJour magazine.

‘I thought our life together was perfect. It took a long time for me to heal. It was a shock to my system,” she said.

‘We were in a bubble, just the two of us. We have become very dependent on each other. I was reeling with Tom.

‘I would have gone to the ends of the earth for him… I was completely in love – I fell madly, passionately in love.’

Nicole has since found love again with country singer Keith Urban and the couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.
