Nicole Kidman reveals she had plans to retire from acting before she made Big Little Lies – as she delights fans by announcing a third season

Nicole Kidman had plans to retire from acting before signing on for the HBO series Big Little Lies.

The Oscar-winning actress, 56, made the revelation at a golf event in the US, which was later published by Deux Moi.

‘I loved [the show] because it happened at a time in my life when I was having kids and I thought I was going to retire,” she said in the clip.

The Hours star said that when fellow Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon stopped by, she got excited about the show.

“A situation arose where Reese Witherspoon and I could produce and create that show.

“You all looked at it and made it a great success.”

Nicole concluded by telling event attendees that they plan to make a third season, saying, “we’re bringing you a third season, just FYI.”

Big Little Lies first aired in 2017, based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty. A second season aired in 2019.

The series follows five wealthy women after they become embroiled in a murder investigation. The series received critical acclaim.

In addition to Reese and Nicole, the series also starred Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep.

It’s been almost five years since season two of the HBO crime drama dropped and ended on a cliffhanger.

Earlier this year, the show’s executive producer Bruna Papandrea told Deadline, “I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately,” she said.

“A situation arose where Reese Witherspoon and I could produce and create that show. Then you all looked at it and made it a huge success,” she said

“I really believe that a lot of people feel the same way I do, which is at some point they’ll find a way to move on.”

Nicole just received a huge Hollywood honor.

She is a recipient of the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The ceremony will take place on April 27 in Los Angeles.

“Thank you AFI for including me in this distinguished group of artists that I love and admire so much. This is truly the highest honor! I’m looking forward to a fun evening!’ she wrote on social media alongside a video announcing the event.
