She’s known for her often daring fashion choices, but Nicole Kidman still gets valuable advice about her clothes from a trusted source: her mother.
The 56-year-old Oscar winner revealed Thursday that she still turns to her mother Janelle, 83, for advice on her chic ensembles, despite having access to Hollywood’s top stylists.
“My mom still is — she’s so involved in what I wear,” Kidman admitted Thursday at Planet Omega’s pop-up launch at the Chelsea Factory in New York City. People.
Nicole, who celebrated her mother’s birthday in March, also said her mother and grandmother were crucial in developing her taste in clothes.

Mom knows best: “My mom is still — she’s so involved in what I wear,” Kidman said, before sharing how her mother and grandmother instilled in her an appreciation for fashion; seen together in 2018 in Sydney, Australia
“As a little girl, I grew up with a grandmother who loved fashion and could sew, and so did my mother. They liked nice clothes. They could make beautiful clothes,” she continued.
‘I saw them sewing, embroidering, knitting and crocheting. And I think when you grow up and you see the people in your household doing that, you’ll love it.”
Nicole was even asked if her mom Janelle had given her feedback on the racy black cutout dress she wore to the CMA Awards in Nashville on Wednesday, where she was joined by her husband Keith Urban.
‘I haven’t heard it yet. I don’t know if that’s a good sign!’ she joked. “She didn’t text me!”
Her country singer husband Keith was coordinated with her in a spotted charcoal shirt and black pants, although he stood out in comically large black square-toed shoes.
The Eyes Wide Shut star, an ambassador for Omega, was on the same page on Thursday night wearing a similar, but more reserved, black dress.
She wore a sleeveless off-the-shoulder piece with a bow over her bust and a train following behind her.
The actress paired her dress with black tights and pointed-toe pumps.
One of Nicole’s most recent fashion controversies broke out last year, when she graced the cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue wearing a shockingly skimpy, schoolgirl-inspired outfit.

No shame: Earlier this year, she defended one of her more controversial outfits, a schoolgirl-inspired piece for the cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood 2022 issue
The look consisted of a tiny pleated gray skirt with pockets dangling underneath, and she paired it with a surprising crop top that looked like she had simply put on a second copy of the same miniskirt, with a few more dangling pockets.
But Nicole defended the sharp look and gave in to her Australian director Baz Luhrmann Vogue Australia that she had ‘begged’ to wear the outfit.
“I was like, ‘No, no, I like this! Can I wear that?'” she recalled, noting that her stylist Katie Grand was shocked.
‘Katie said, “Are you willing to wear that?!” And I said, “Wear it?! I beg you to wear it!”‘
