Nicola McLean recalls lying about her weight to get dangerous ‘quick fix’ skinny jabs

Nicola McLean recalls her experience of lying about her weight in order to get dangerous weight-loss incentives online in an attempt to shed the pounds.

The TV personality, 41, who has battled bulimia since childhood, told a new interview that the controversial ‘skinny jabs’ left her feeling ‘violently sick’ and had severe headaches.

Despite the jabs initially being marketed to help treat diabetes, a number of well-known stars have turned to the appetite suppressant product to help with weight loss – Nicola being one of them.

However, the former glamor model has since spoken out against the jabs that made her feel “so sick,” with the star noting that she previously thought they were “the answer to all my prayers.”

It wasn’t until her concerned footballer husband Tom Williams, 42, threw away the jabs that Nicola started to feel better and realized how bad they were for her.

Speak against The sun, she said, “It made me so sick. It is advertised as if it is going to work wonders. People like me who suffer from bulimia and anorexia will look at this and think “This is the moment I’ve been waiting for, this is going to change my life”. I thought this was the answer to all my prayers’

However, she quickly confirmed it was a “big mistake” and that she would not recommend the shots – which she started taking in 2020 – to anyone.

Nicola went on to share how she found the jabs through an ad on Instagram and after inquiry was directed to an Instagram account claiming to be an online nurse promoting healthy weight loss.

She was then advised to claim she was ‘two stone heavier’ than she actually was to get the £250 jabs, and to give her height, blood pressure and BMI, with Nicola claiming the jabs were ‘so easy ‘ were to get.

She said: ‘I lied about my weight, gave my normal height of 1.65m, my blood pressure, paid £250 for a month and within a few days it was in. It was so simple and easy. I thought it was that quick fix I was always looking for. I told myself it wasn’t a big deal. If celebrities did it, it would be safe for me too.’

The beauty went on to share that she started taking the jab, which was called Saxenda, daily, explaining how she started feeling “really sick.”

Describing her suffering, she said, “I was violently ill, and Tom was like, ‘That’s so strange for you,’ because I have the strongest stomach you’ll ever know from being bulimic for years.” Then I got a headache, but I brushed it off.’

She recalled also “brushing off” her husband Tom’s concerns, saying she was “in denial” as her weight loss was “more important” to her at the time – despite only being a size 40 at the time.

Amid her ongoing struggles with anorexia, bulimia and body dysmorphia, Nicola shared how the jab made her “not want to eat” and that it was “really nice” not to be “fixated” on food because her appetite had gone.

Despite the punches that made her vomit every morning, Nicola continued to take them and “divert” her inner concerns.

Her addition to them didn’t stop until Tom took action and threw them out, with Nicola insisting she was “very thankful” for that moment as she immediately started to feel better.

In the wake of her ordeal, the mother-of-two has urged the government to change the law as the weight-loss incentives are more accessible than ever to vulnerable people.

Nicola’s story comes after she hit back at critics after she posted a revealing photo and later received negative comments and messages about her “very large implants.”

The former glamor model took to her Instagram Stories in January to address the “reaction” she’d received to a photo she shared the night before.

The photo shows the former I’m A Celebrity star dining out in a skimpy black top and ripped jeans.

But when she posted to her 259,000 followers, she wrote, “Whenever I wear clothes that show my very large implants, it provokes such a reaction.

“Listen, it didn’t escape my notice that they are huge and that it’s not everyone’s taste… I even get it, when girls ask me about it, I don’t say, do it, they’re hard work!

“But I don’t understand people being mean in my DMs and commenting sh** on my photos (mostly women). Come on girls, let’s stick together.’

Nicola’s caption was given the background of a troll who wrote, “MORE PLASTIC THAN MY UPVC WINDOWS.”
