Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, has faced widespread criticism after fans accused him of using a homosexual slur during an Instagram Live session on Friday.
The drama unfolded when the 41-year-old Grammy-winning rapper addressed her followers with a message about protecting their happiness, while her 46-year-old husband sat behind her.
“Don’t let anyone or anything steal your damn joy,” she remarked.
His response, which was interpreted by many as “That’s right, mostly little f***** and f***boys,” sparked a wave of criticism on social media.
One outraged follower posted, “Kenneth Petty uses the F slur on live air with Nicki Minaj and she does nothing,” while another shared, “He just insulted her entire male fan base.”

Another pointed to Petty’s status as a sex offender, saying, “Are we shocked? He’s a rapist too. I wouldn’t wish anything on him. Filth.”
However, many social media users claimed that Petty actually said “haters” and not an insult to gays.
The controversy arose nearly three months after Petty was granted international travel to support his wife on her Pink Friday World Tour, while still on probation for failing to register as a sex offender.
He had told the court in documents he had seen TMZ that it is essential that he be allowed to accompany the artist to Europe to look after their three-year-old son.
The series of dates began in Montreal and covered locations such as London, Amsterdam and Paris. The date the case ended was July 14 in Belgium. Petty told the court he could be in the US at the latest.
The probation officer overseeing Petty’s case — originally based on his April 1995 conviction for attempted first-degree rape — “has not objected to his travel request,” the outlet reported, citing court documents.
Petty’s legal troubles made headlines last September after he was sentenced to 120 days of house arrest for violating his probation after posting clips on social media of aggressive messages toward Migos rapper Offset.
A court order filed in the case in the Central District of California states that on Sept. 16, 2023, Petty was “captured on video making threatening comments to a specific individual in the company of someone with a criminal record,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Minaj, whose full name is Onika Tanya Maraj, has been married to Petty since October 2019.

In December 2023 Fashion profile, the Super Bass artist explained the dynamics of her relationship with Petty, whom she has known since high school.
“Because I’ve known my husband for so long, we’re comfortable with each other,” Minaj said of Petty. “We make each other laugh. We’re goofy. And we’re always reminiscing about an old story.
“If it was a guy that I met as Nicki Minaj, I think I would feel like they liked me because I’m Nicki Minaj, and what if I don’t look like Nicki Minaj every day? And that, combined with pregnancy, probably would have driven me crazy.”
In the interview, she said of starting a family with Petty: ‘I think deep down I believed that once I had a family, I would lose the drive to make music.
“I used to tell people, ‘Look, when I have a kid, I’m going to cook every meal for him and bake cookies every day.’ Maybe subconsciously I was hoping that I would just focus on being a mom, and I was looking forward to that idea. It was a relief. But what happens is you find out you have to work.”

Minaj posted a series of photos of herself, Petty and their son on Instagram on Tuesday night. She captioned the photo, “Go DADDY!!!!! Mommy and daddy loveeeeeeeee youuuuuuuuuuu.”
Minaj said she and Petty spent their son’s — whose name they declined to officially name — infancy with little help from others, leading to “irritations” between them.
“I think because of our history, we knew we would get through it,” Minaj said. “But there’s no such thing as trust in parenting.
“I wish someone had told me — though I’m sure I couldn’t have understood it — that there’s a level of fear, and you think it’s going to go away, but in fact it gets scarier. So often you’re like, I don’t know how to do this!”
