Nicki Minaj scores back-to-back number one debuts on Hot Rap Songs Chart with Red Ruby Da Sleeze
On the heels of success with her hit single Super Freaky Girl, nicki minaj has worked her way to the top of the charts with her first solo single of 2023, Red Ruby Da Sleeze.
The new release, which is the second single from her upcoming studio album NM5, gives the rapper and singer two consecutive number one debuts on the Hot Rap Songs chart, according to Billboard.
In the lead up to Red Ruby Da Sleeze on March 3, the pop star dropped promotional snippets on her social media platforms, just like she did with Super Freaky Girl.
The song is another sampler hit that features elements of Lumidee’s 2003 hit Never Leave You (Uh Oh), the debut single from her first album Almost Famous.
At the top of the chart: Nicki Minaj, 40, has back-to-back No. 1 debuts on the Hot Rap Songs chart following the success of Red Ruby Da Sleeze, according to Billboard.
Coming Soon: Tentatively slated for a 2023 release, there is no official word on when their NM5 album will be released so far.
Ruby’s rise to the top of the chart was mostly driven by pure first-week sales of around 41,000, which is the most any hip-hop song has garnered this year.
Among all music genres, it ranks second after Miley Cyrus’ song Flowers, which garnered a whopping 70,000 copies.
Samplering the late funk rocker Rick James’ 1981 hit song Super Freak, Super Freaky Girl was released last August as the first single to promote NM5 and quickly became Minaj’s third US number one. and his first number one without company.
It ended up topping the Hot Rap Songs chart for 11 weeks in 2022, on its way to becoming one of the biggest songs of the year.
She also made music history by becoming the first female solo rapper with a number-one debut on the Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1997.
After her initial Ruby release, MInaj decided to make an extended version called the Roman Remix, which features the return of her alter ego Roman Zolanski.
Named after film director Roman Polanski with a modified last name, Roman Zolanski has been described as her “twin brother” and “a demon inside of her” who emerges when she’s angry.
MInaj got the idea to create alter egos in her music when she recalled her childhood and how she created characters as a means of escaping traumatic situations like frequent fights between her parents.

Minaj first referenced her upcoming studio album as “the fifth thing in the song Barbie Going Bad” in February 2019.
In the record, Minaj talks about her label wanting her to release the lead single from her fifth album and that the album has been recorded.
Tentatively scheduled to launch in 2023, so far there is no official information on when NM5 will be released.
Minaj was recently ranked No. 7 on Billboard and Vibe’s list of the 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time, and number 10 on Billboard’s Top Pop Stars of 2022 list.
