Nicki Minaj coaxes rare smile from Anna Wintour at Vogue’s Forces of Fashion in NYC

Nicki Minaj persuaded Vogue’s global editor-in-chief Anna Wintour to flash a rare smile while attending the eighth annual Forces of Fashion event, held Wednesday at her office at One World Trade Center in lower Manhattan.

During her 73 Questions with Vogue last November, the 41-year-old hip-hop star famously freestyled: “I heard them who they sent to / said you got a 10, you must have meant four / how to summon the Wintour / Hello, Anna Wintour!”

Nicki (born Onika Maraj) showed off some leg in a navy turtleneck high-hem dress with black stilettos and chrome bubble bracelets.

Minaj wore a side-parted black wig at the back and a bold red lip for the daylong industry event where tickets cost between $2,000 and $5,000.

Outside the venue, the 12-time Grammy nominee demonstrated her star power with the large number of devoted Barbz fans who surrounded her at the entrance.

Nicki was at Forces of Fashion to participate in a livestream conversation called “Nicki Reloaded,” moderated by Meta VP of fashion, Eva Chen.

“A few different women in my life, at different times in my life, told me, ‘When you get to a certain age, you’re going to be so happy. The things you used to worry about, think about, care about – You won’t have that anymore. You will have this confidence,” Minaj remembered on stage.

‘And I said, no. I sweated the small stuff, so to speak. And of course they were all fine. They were fine. What happens is you realize who cares! Who cares about most of the things we worry about or think about when someone says something about us or what comment someone left about us on the internet.

“Do you realize that I have all these blessings in my life and I choose to focus on the people who don’t like me? I feel like when you hit 30, 40, 50, you hit a milestone, especially for women, your confidence grows and grows and grows.”

The Trinidadian-born, New York-raised star explained how over the decades she began to realize what clothes worked best for her body and what hair worked best for her face.

‘You will understand yourself better. When you understand yourself better, you forgive yourself. You can love yourself and the imperfections you never loved before,” Nicki noted.

‘I used to be unable to look at old photos of myself. And when I look at them now, I think they’re great. I don’t know what was going on in my head at that moment that made me feel that way, but thank God it went away.

“And I hope that all the girls or boys everywhere, I hope you know that one day you’ll look back at those pictures that you hate, and you’ll realize, ‘Oh my god, look how beautiful, look how beautiful Look how cute I was!” So do it now. Love yourself now, because that’s how I really feel right now.”
