Nick Kyrgios has once again insisted that the finish line is in sight, as the 27-year-old reiterated his plans to retire from tennis in the near future.

Kyrgios revealed last year that a Grand Slam triumph would be enough to walk him away from the sport, and he repeated that idea after his charity exhibition match with Novak Djokovic.

The Canberra-born star admitted he has a hard time committing to the ‘dedication’ required to perform at the highest level.

Nick Kyrgios has reiterated his bold plans to retire from tennis, despite being just 27 years old.

The Canberra-born star is one of the favorites to win the Australian Open this summer

“100 percent,” said Kyrgios after putting on a show with Djokovic.

‘It’s a lot of training, a lot of work, and I just want to be able to eat what I want, drink what I want to drink.

‘It’s a tough lifestyle. The dedication these guys show… I did a bit of that last year to show the world that I’m still one of the best.

“But I’m going to try to do it this year and hopefully I can do it, but it will be difficult.”

Kyrgios reached the Wimbledon final last year, losing to Djokovic at the All England Club. Before the Australian Open, the 27-year-old insisted that he is one of the best players on the planet.

However, he admits that he struggles to keep up with the ‘dedication’ required to get to the top.

“I’m one of the best players in the world, so I’m definitely going to go to the Australian Open, any tournament, with confidence,” the Australian number one said after practice at Melbourne Park on Thursday.

‘It’s a bit different this time for me to be one of the favourites. I’m usually a dark horse type, but now, obviously after the year I’ve had, I’m one of the favorites, so it’s a new thing for me as well.

“This is the first time I’ve really felt like I’m one of the guys who can actually take the trophy and knock on the door.” I don’t know what I’m going to feel when I get out.

“Usually I have nothing to lose and just do one show, but I have to really try to find that balance. Fourteen days to win one of these things is not easy. Obviously I am capable, but many other people are too.
