Australian tennis burner Nick Kyrgios has criticized Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik for an apparent slur that was picked up by microphones during his US Open loss to Dominic Thiem.
Bublik went down 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 against the former champion, and during the second set, the world number 27 is said to have said in Russian: “I’m tired of giving careers back to people with a disability. ‘
It was Thiem’s first grand slam win in more than two years after he struggled with a serious wrist injury.
Bublik also recently lost to Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils, after they both returned from absence due to injury.
Kyrgios, who is currently battling his own injuries, was quick to respond to the incident, tweeting, “This is low-key terrible.”

Tennis journalist and commentator José Morgado also denounced Bublik on Twitter, accusing him of “a huge lack of respect.”
When Thiem was questioned about the apparent insult at his press conference, he questioned whether the translation was correct.
When informed by a reporter that this was so, Thiem disapproved of the comment.
“It’s a hard saying,” Thiem said.
‘Something you shouldn’t say in general, out of respect. Maybe he didn’t mean it that way.’
Tennis fans were also outraged by Bublik’s alleged sled, which has a history of controversial moments on the court.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Sometimes I don’t understand how he manages to escape the criticism and fines Nick Kyrgios gets. His behavior on the field is just as bad as NK’s, and he has done and said so many offensive things?’
Another replied, “Bublik says bad things pretty much every other game. However, this is disgusting, even by his standards.
Bublik made headlines earlier this year when he lost all composure and smashed three of his rackets in a stunning on-court meltdown in Montpellier.
Thiem will then face the young American Ben Shelton in the second round of the US Open.
