Nick Kyrgios reveals the reason he supports Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham ahead of Wimbledon charge

Nick Kyrgios has revealed why the unlikely Premier League cult hero convinced him to become a Tottenham fan.

Kyrgios, 28, has long shown love for the north London club and has been seen wearing Spurs’ iconic white kits on tour over the years.

His link with Tottenham Hotspur may be further strengthened after they announced the appointment of compatriot Ange Postecoglou earlier this year, who, like Kyrgios, has had to fight for his place at the top of the sport.

And the Australian has revealed how fellow maverick Emmanuel Adebayor turned him into a Tottenham fan following his spell at the club from 2011 to 2015.

“It’s a funny story — you’ll like this,” he told Men’s Health magazine.

“I play a lot of computer games and I always liked Emmanuel Adebayor on Fifa. He was playing for Spurs at the time, so I supported them and never changed.’

Kyrgios is aiming to win his first-ever slam this summer, having fallen short at Wimbledon last year, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final.

But he insists he won’t feel unfulfilled if he ends his career without a fight.

‘Not at all. I’ve had that conversation with myself and it’s hard to have. Every day since I came on the scene, everyone in the sport has had an opinion about me. “He’s one of the most talented players… will he ever live up to his potential… will he do this, will he do that?”

“If you let their expectations influence you, you can feel like a failure.

“But I can look back and I have achieved some great things.

“I’ve achieved a lot, had a great journey.”

Kyrgios will find out tomorrow, when the draw is known, which route he has to take to reach the men’s final. The 28-year-old – who didn’t play this year due to an injury – is seeded 31.
