Nick Knowles gives a health update as he reveals when the decision will be made if he can continue with Strictly after arm injury

Nick Knowles has given Strictly fans an update as his arm injury continues to threaten his future in the BBC dancing competition.

The 62-year-old DIY SOS presenter injured his biceps on Sunday while changing a tire after his car broke down on the way to his own birthday party.

Nick’s left arm has been placed in a sling after the injury and he is waiting to see if he can dance again on Saturday.

On Wednesday evening, the TV star shared a video on Instagram in which he showed that his recovery is going well and that a final decision will be made soon as to whether he will be allowed to dance during the live show on Saturday.

“So a little update for you guys. I just got out of the bath after a day of training, which went really, really well,” Nick told his followers.

‘Shoulder is recovering very well. I also saw a great physiotherapist today, that helped a lot.’

He revealed that producers and his team of doctors will decide on Thursday whether he will dance over the weekend.

“So I have another day of training tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon the decision will be made whether I can actually compete on Saturday,” Nick explained, adding that he was hopeful.

“I’m doing my very best to get there. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. So hopefully I’ll see you on Saturday.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Nick announced that he was on his way to the training studio to meet his partner Luba Mushtuk and see what he can do. Hopefully, he will be allowed to dance.

“It’s a really big day for me,” he told fans in a video. “I really, really hope that we find out on Saturday that I can dance.”

Nick shared the video of him walking into the dance studio and said, “Good morning everyone. Well, it’s been an interesting few days, I can tell you that. A lot to think about, a lot of people to see. I’ve got a lot of people trying to make it all work.

“I feel good. I still wear my arms in a sling so they get enough rest when I’m not using them. But today I’m going to dance to see what my possibilities are.”

‘Luba is trying to prepare a dance that suits me.’

He added: I really want to compete, so keep your fingers crossed for me.’

Strictly bosses have made contingency plans in case he has to pull out of the show this weekend.

Producers do not want to lose their most famous star from the 20th anniversary series at all costs.

They have made plans to give him a “free pass” for week three while he recovers, rather than forcing him to withdraw from competition entirely.

A source told MailOnline: ‘They are all anxiously awaiting the green light from the medical team for Nick to take part this weekend, but they are determined not to pull him from the show.

“If that bothers other candidates, then so be it. The bosses want him back.”

Yesterday, Knowles was under medical supervision from doctors and physiotherapists in a desperate attempt to stay in the race.

He will return to Strictly rehearsals on Wednesday, where doctors will make a final decision on whether he can continue.

This weekend the first famous participant will be voted out of the dance show.

After visiting Harley Street on Monday for an emergency MRI scan, Knowles told Strictly spin-off It Takes Two he was “really hopeful” he would be able to continue with the programme.

But presenter Janette Manrara told viewers: ‘At this point we don’t know if you will be able to dance on Saturday.’

He will dance an American Smooth with his professional partner Luba at Blur’s Parklife, provided he gets the green light from the doctors.

Mushtuk joked that they were going to make Knowles’s garland “sparkly,” saying it’s “still in a perfect position on his right arm.”

She said the pair can work on “perfect footwork” for the foxtrot element of the dance and hopefully can still do a lift, noting they can “work around” the injury.

Knowles added: ‘Luckily I’m very tall and Luba is very light, so I can lift with one arm.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday at 6.15pm.
