Nic Cage’s vampire movie Renfield now has its own video game

In the funny, gory horror movie Renfield, which premieres Friday, Nicolas Cage plays Dracula and Nicholas Hoult is his beleaguered servant, Renfield. The feature film also gets one Vampire survivorslike game customization, available now for a bite-sized price (ah-ah-ahhhh!) on Steam.

Renfield: Bring your own bloodofficially launched in early access on Wednesdayappears to be a straight lift from Vampire survivorsformat, including the fact that vampires themselves are not among the enemy hordes in either game. In this case, players like Renfield run around New Orleans trying to find their boss and encounter gangs and bosses who want you both out of the Crescent City.

Developer Mega Cat Studios says it has no plans to increase the game’s price after the early access period. Post-launch DLC can of course be offered at its own premium, or in a bundle with the game for over $4.99.

Our reviewer didn’t dig Renfield, who smothers his jokes in cynicism and choppy editing; maybe it’s better as a video game. The film is based on a story by Robert Kirkman, whom fans recognize as the co-creator of The living Dead and the founder of Skybound Entertainment – which also publishes Renfield: Bring your own blood. The film, co-produced by Skybound and distributed by Universal Pictures, is written by Ryan Ridley and directed by Chris McKay.
