Thieves broke into the home of Pittsburgh Penguins alternate captain Evgeni Malkin and stole his three Stanley Cup championship rings, according to reporter Jennifer Borrasso of the Pittsburgh CBS station KDKA.
The station reports that Malkin’s home in the Pittsburgh suburb of Sewickley Heights was broken into on Saturday and that the three rings are missing.
KDKA reports that the back door of Malkin’s home was kicked in and that both the alarm system and security cameras were not working at the time. Moreover, his safe had been kept open.
At the time of the burglary, the Penguins were playing a matinee game against the Ottawa Senators. Hours later, 911 was called.
Allegheny County police confirmed to KDKA that they are investigating a burglary in the area. A spokesperson added that they are looking for anyone with more information about the situation.
Malkin is the latest athlete to fall victim to a burglary, joining a list of professional sports superstars who have had their homes invaded.

Homes aren’t the only thing thieves target. In late December, a vehicle belonging to the fiancée of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was also hit by burglars.
Malkin isn’t the only NHL star to have fallen victim to these types of privacy invasions. Last year, Dallas Stars signed Tyler Seguin His house was also targeted.
Late last year, the FBI sent an alert to American professional sports leagues about possible organized burglaries specifically targeting superstar athletes.
Malkin is one of the greatest Russians to ever play in the NHL and is on the Mount Rushmore of Penguins players. Malkin was drafted second overall in 2004 – behind fellow American Alex Ovechkin – and won Stanley Cup titles with Pittsburgh in 2009, 2016 and 2017.
A seven-time All-Star, Malkin’s 1,328 points are the third-most in franchise history behind fellow legends Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby. His point total is the 34th best in NHL history and third best among active players (behind Crosby and Ovechkin).
