NFL’s Taylor Lewan is suing Dr. James Andrews due to failed 2020 ACL surgery in the right knee
NFL’s Taylor Lewan alleges noted sports doctor cut short his football career by ‘negligently failing to properly repair all injuries’ during 2020 ACL surgery, lawsuit says
Ex-Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan has alleged that a well-known sports doctor cut short his NFL career by “negligently failing to properly repair all injuries” during surgery on the ACL in his right knee in 2020.
The 31-year-old filed a lawsuit against Dr. James Andrews, almost three years after he went down in a game against the Houston Texans.
The three-time Pro Bowler (2016-18) has accused Andrews of damaging cartilage and failing to repair a malposition of the femoral tunnel, among other things, in court documents obtained by DailyMail.com.
He also claims that the 80-year-old did not recover from all of his injuries during the procedure.

Andrews, 80, is a popular NFL surgeon who works for the Commanders (seen in 2012)
Lewan added that he suffers from permanent pain and disability, which ended his eight-year stint in the NFL, from 2014-2022.
The 11th pick from the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft is seeking reparation for damage done by Andrews, who has performed surgeries in the past on several sports stars, such as Michael Jordan, Brett Favre and Sharrif Floyd, though the latter sued the doctor for $180 million after “acquiring nerve and muscle damage during knee surgery.”
What’s more is that in 2020, Lewin was in the middle of a five-year, $80 million contract before going under the knife.
Andrews is a popular orthopedic surgeon among American athletes and especially in the NFL.
He has close ties to the Washington Commanders, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Auburn Tigers.

Lewan, 31, injured his right knee again in Week 2 of last season against the Buffalo Bills
Earlier in May, Lewan shared some of his thoughts on the botched surgery on his podcast, Bussin’ With The Boys. The former NFL offensive linesman was released by the Titans in February.
“It sucks since 2020. It’s been tough. I would love to sit here and vent…but the reality is I just can’t right now,” he said. “If I can, I’ll be sure to share more when I can.”
One of the league’s top rookies in 2014, Lewin only played in 15 games under procedure. He re-injured his right knee in Week 2 last season.
The California native has yet to officially retire, but based on his situation and his recent comments, it seems only a matter of time before he announces he’s going to hang up his cleats for good.
