Bryce Young has maintained he’s ‘fine’ after a few big hits vs. the Jets in his preseason debut, which the Panthers lost 27–0.
The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft got two huge hits in the first quarter after dropping the ball, and was also sent to turf in the second quarter by a Quinton Jefferson sack.
Nevertheless, the 5-foot-10, 204-pound passer—one of the shortest quarterbacks in league history—wasn’t fazed after being rolled by the Jets defense.
“Yeah, that’s part of the game,” he said via Panther Wire.
“Football is a physical sport. It is part of the job description. You get hit – and again, that’s the game we play. It’s part of the job and you know it’s coming. That’s not something I’m thinking about. Don’t let that influence your decision making or what you’re going through.”
Bryce Young completed four of six pass attempts on his debut in the Panthers’ preseason
He fired Jets defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson in the second quarter of the game
“I feel good,” he added. “Physically, I’m blessed that I don’t have one. . . I feel good now. And again, for me, whatever people may assume or think is going on or whatever the expectations are, I have no control over that. That’s what they are. To me, that’s not something I put stock into. It’s not something I think about.’
Young’s night would end after three rides and playing just 11 times.
He completed four of his six passes for 21 yards.
After finishing 7-10 last year, the Panthers traded the No. 9 overall pick, the No. 61 overall pick, a 2024 first-rounder, a 2025 second-rounder and receiver DJ Moore to the Bears for the No. 1 overall pick, which was used to select Young in April.
Young, who was officially named the team’s starting quarterback by coach Frank Reich last month, will make his regular season debut with the Falcons on Sept. 10.
