The highest the seven-time Super Bowl champion had been before was second in the league’s biggest earners standings when he was named No. 2 in 2021 on $72.5m.

His earnings have increased to $75m before taxes and agents’ fees this year, taking him to the summit of the leaderboard.

Fellow quarterbacks Stafford ($65.5m), Rodgers ($53m), Mahomes ($51.5m) and the Buffalo Bills Josh Allen ($51m) complete the top five.

In his 19 years with the New England Patriots Brady had discounted deals but is now getting $30m on-field as well as $45m off the field.

He launched wellness company TB12, which sells protein powder, snack packs and exercise equipment in 2013. Meanwhile last year, he co-founded the NFT platform Autograph, which focuses on sports and media-related non-fungible tokens.

Then earlier this year, his apparel line Brady Brand, or BRADY, went live online. In addition, Brady has multiple mega-money endorsement deals including with online exchange FTX.

Deshaun Watson, who has been in the headlines after being handed a six-game ban last week over dozens of sexual misconduct allegations dating back to his time with the Houston Texans, is the sixth-highest earner in the NFL.

He receives $45.7m on-field and $500,000 off-field, giving him a total income of $46.2m.

Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins ($42.5m), Denver Broncos Russell Wilson ($38m) and Arizona Cardinals Kyler Murray ($33.5m) are seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.

Last year’s top-earner Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys has fallen down to 10th place, given he penned a four-year $160m deal with a whopping $66m signing bonus in 2021.

His total earnings were $87m last year as a result and he now receives $33m. It is a clean sweep for the quarterbacks, which like Brady being No. 1 is a first in the Forbes NFL highest earners.

Brady reversed his decision to retire just six weeks after revealing he was quitting the sport earlier this year.

But he is currently missing from action and will not return to the Buccaneers’ training camp until August 20 due to personal reasons.

The quarterback was not present at training camp Thursday morning due to ‘personal, non-football reasons’.

Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed after the session that Brady will not return until after the Buccaneers’ second preseason game against the Titans which is set to take place on August 20.
