Patrick Mahomes praised his wife Brittany Mahomes for her resilience when it comes to dealing with social media trolls.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 27, spoke with E! News in a story published Wednesday, as the pair attended the 2023 ESPY Awards in Hollywood, California at the Dolby Theater.
The two-time Super Bowl champion pointed to his wife’s athletic background who played soccer for the University of Texas at Tyler and the Icelandic soccer team UMF Afturelding/Fram.
“She was an athlete growing up,” the Tyler, Texas-born signal caller told the publication.
He continued, “If you’ve been involved in sports, you know as many people who enjoy how you play and the effort you put in, [there’s] people who will always hate you.’

Patrick, who is a father of two with Brittany – daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes, two, and seven-month-old son Patrick ‘Bronze’ Lavon Mahomes III – said his wife “has a good feel for that.”
Patrick, who signed a 10-year, $500 million contract in 2020, said his wife of two years “has her head on her shoulders the right way” by taking a low-key approach to life that “we all love can learn’.
He added, “Enjoy your life every day and don’t worry about what everyone thinks – life is short,” and that “you want to enjoy those moments and remember those moments.”
Patrick said that because he and his wife “try to enjoy those moments with our family as much as possible.”
Patrick – who can be seen in the new Netflix docuseries Quarterback, due out on the streaming service on Wednesday – said he has consulted his wife in the past about how to deal with “the pressure of being in the spotlight” and the ” ups and downs of the sport.
He said, ‘She’s my rock. She is the one who, in difficult times, can help me through.
“Having someone who supports you every day, like me, is the reason I’m in the position I’m in right now.”
Mahomes is gearing up for his sixth professional season in the NFL as he continues his career of unparalleled excellence and effectiveness on the field.
The quarterback has thrown 192 passing touchdowns in 80 career games and rushed for another 12.
In five seasons as a starter, he made the Pro Bowl every year, won the MVP twice and two Super Bowls, in 2020 and 2023.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, in February. He named Super Bowl MVP.
