NFL star Jameson Williams won’t face criminal charges after two guns were found in car at a traffic stop

  • Jameson Williams was heard telling police, “Bro, I play for the Detroit Lions.”

Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will not face charges after two guns were found in a car he was driving during a traffic stop.

On Oct. 8, Williams was reportedly a passenger in a car driven by his brother, who told police there were two firearms in the car after they were stopped for speeding.

And while Detroit police would later investigate why Williams left the incident without being arrested, a Wayne County prosecutor said told TMZ Monday that she would deny DPD’s request for an arrest warrant in the case.

“We all agree that this decision is the right one and only one,” Kym Worthy said.

“And I am personally confident that with these specific and unique facts, the right decision was made.”

Worthy added to TMZ that ‘a team of experienced attorneys had reviewed the case and that Williams’ status as receiver for the Lions played no role in the decision.

“We have charged Detroit-area athletes before and would not have hesitated to do so again if the facts of this case could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” she continued. “When it comes to charging decisions, we don’t take into account who the potential suspect is, how much power and influence he has, or how well-liked he is. We only deal with the facts and the law.’

A firearm was found in the backseat and under Williams’ seat.

One of the weapons is said to be registered to Williams, but the NFL star does not have a concealed pistol permit. Bodycam footage shows Williams pleading with officers after they warned him he would be taken into custody.

“I play for the Lions, I’m Jameson Williams,” you hear him say. “Bro, I play for the Detroit Lions.”

Williams eventually admitted that the firearm was his after his brother tried to claim it was his.

“I have the gun for protection… do you know where I live? Detroit!’ said Williams, who was handcuffed and put in the back of a police car.

A sergeant, who arrived on the scene, made several calls to higher-ups to determine whether the NFL star should be detained.

He eventually gave Williams’ gun back and let him go. He even appeared to say to the arresting officers, “I’m so mad at you two.”

When the sergeant was told Williams could be released, he told a lieutenant on the phone, “You’re a hero. Thank you very much’.

The wallpaper on the sergeant’s phone was the Lions logo.

According to WYZX Newsthe decision not to retain the Detroit star left police chiefs ‘p****d off’.

“I want to know, did the fact that this person was a Detroit Lions player play a factor in the decision-making?” Commander Michael McGinnis is quoted as asking.

Williams’ attorney previously said Williams and his brother were “cooperative and respectful” with police and that both firearms were properly registered.

Meanwhile, Williams has continued to play for the Lions, although he was recently fined $19,697 for grabbing his crotch during a touchdown celebration
