The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will open the regular season at home against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 5 in a rematch of last season’s AFC title game, the NFL announced Monday.
The Chiefs defeated the Ravens 17-10 in January’s AFC championship game and then defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime to claim their third Super Bowl in five seasons.
The Chiefs will be led by the reigning Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, while the Ravens will have the current NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson, at quarterback. Mahomes has won four of the five games between the pair.
As usual, the Chiefs-Ravens opener takes place on Thursday night, while most other NFL teams play their first game of the season a few days later on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on NBC in the US. The Chiefs also entered the 2023 season as reigning champions, where they were upset by the Detroit Lions.
The NFL will air the entire 2024 season on the NFL Network on Wednesday evening.
