NFL ‘Investigating Colts’ Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers For Violating Betting Policy’

The NFL has opened an investigation into an Indianapolis Colts player for possible violations of the league’s gambling policy.

The Colts organization acknowledged the investigation Monday afternoon and released a statement saying, “We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will not comment further at this time.”

The player in question is Colts cornerback and kick returner Isaiah Rodgers, according to ESPN.

The report adds that a sportsbook account in the name of one of Rodgers’ associates placed approximately 100 bets over an undisclosed amount of time.

Most bets, including those on Colts games, would be between $25 and $50, but there was reportedly one notable low four-figure bet.

Rodgers, a sixth-round pick, enters the final year of a four-year, $3.4 million contract.

It comes after sporthandle.com released a report claiming an investigation was underway into Colts players’ “penetrating” bets, including bets on his own team.

The player was not named by the report, nor by the team.

The NFL has announced that they have suspended five players for gambling on games in the 2022 season – with penalties taking effect in the upcoming 2023 season.

According to a league statement, three players are suspended indefinitely, and all are serving for at least the 2023 season. Those players include wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety CJ Moore of the Detroit Lions, as well as defensive end Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders.

In addition, two other Lions players – both rookies – received lighter sentences. Star receiver Jameson Williams and fellow pass catcher Stanley Berryhill were suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season.

In the NFL’s statement, they highlighted part of their gambling policy that prohibits anyone in the league from “participating in any form of gambling at any club or league facility or venue, including the practice facility.”

The league’s statement added that a review found that there is “no evidence that any insider information has been used or that any game has been compromised in any way”.

Last year, then-Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for the entire 2022 season for betting on NFL games over five games while away from the team.

Ridley was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars at last November’s trade deadline and reinstated in March.
