NFL insider reveals where Aaron Rodgers could go if he leaves the Jets

The future of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains up in the air as a disastrous season approaches.

The 41-year-old signal caller is in the midst of one of the worst full seasons of his NFL career – with much speculation surrounding a possible departure from the Jets.

There aren’t many immediate suggestions as to where he might go. But NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport believes a team that just made a huge contract move could be interested in his services.

It was announced on Friday that the Cleveland Browns would be adjusting the massive contract they gave to controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson.

While the adjustment is an indication that Watson will be on the Browns’ roster in 2025, it’s not a sign he could start.

Rapoport believes there could be competition for the job next year – and believes two quarterbacks currently signed to other teams to long-term deals could come into conflict.

“I would expect some competition, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s experienced competition,” Rapoport said on NFL GameDay morning.

“Aaron Rodgers could be a possible option if he is no longer with the Jets. Kirk Cousins, the other one.”

Cousins’ contract is much larger than Rodgers’. The Atlanta Falcons QB just signed with them this offseason for four years and $180 million. $100 million of that contract is guaranteed.

The Falcons have an opt-out in 2026, but all signs point to them leaving before Cousins.

As for Rodgers, he has one season left on his contract, with the deal making him a free agent in 2026. But his performances this season have been disastrous and he deserves a lot of the blame for the Jets’ shortcomings.

His completion percentage of 62.8 is 27th in the NFL and his average passing yards per game is just 15th. Rodgers has surpassed 300 yards passing in a game just once this season: a 32-26 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Rodgers has also recorded 33 sacks, which ranks 12th in the league, tied with Deshaun Watson and rookie Drake Maye. The only positive stat he has is his touchdown-interception rating (24-8), which is in the top ten in the league.

There are only two games left in the Jets season. They currently play the Buffalo Bills and close their season at home next week against the Miami Dolphins.
