An unnamed NFL general manager recently alleged that the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick traded back with the Pittsburgh Steelers to deliberately poke fun at their arch-rivals, the New York Jets.

During last week’s first round of the NFL Draft, which featured multiple unexpected trades, New England traded back from the No. 14 pick to the No. 17 pick, allowing the Steelers to come forward and pick a spot for the Jets and only Pittsburgh needed to give up a fourth-round pick, number 120.

“They should have given up [third-round pick] and not four to go there,” an NFL general manager told anonymously The Washington Post.

“Belichick just did it to fuck the Jets. He sold low because he knew the Steelers would get the kid the Jets wanted.”

Leading up to the draft, New York didn’t hide the fact that they were looking for an offensive tackle before even acquiring Aaron Rodgers.

And the trade allowed Pittsburgh to get the last of four tackles deemed worthy of being picked at that point in the round in Georgia’s Broderick Jones.

Three of the consensus top-four tackles, Paris Johnson Jr. of Ohio State, Darnell Wright of Tennessee, and Peter Skoronski of Northwestern, were also all off the board in the 11th pick in the draft.

“Bill will try to give them every chance he gets,” another NFL hiring manager told The Washington Post. “He knew exactly what he was doing.”

The Jets then ran for most of the click as they appeared to scramble before settling for Iowa State edge rusher Will McDonald IV.

However, despite GM’s unnamed statements, many design experts have noticed that even if the trade had not happened and Jones was still on the board when New York made their selection, he would not have been the choice anyway.

New York ultimately opted for McDonald IV, and after the draft, a host of rumors have also noted that the Jets was very interested in Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs who was selected No. 12 by the Detroit Lions.

Gibbs being selected so highly was perhaps the biggest surprise of the first round, but it was said that teams were much more interested in him due to the versatility he showed playing both the running and passing game in the same way as the wide receiver of the San Francisco 49ers. Deebo Samuel.

Who the Jets would have actually selected had Jones been available would have made for an interesting decision, had he not indeed been favored by general manager Joe Douglas and the rest of the Jets front office.
