After the Washington Commanders won their first playoff game since January 2006 with a last-second field goal, NFL fans all said the same thing about the Wild Card round victory: doink!
The Commanders defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road, 23-20, on a Zane Gonzalez field goal as time expired, with the kick hitting the upright and bouncing through the goalposts for the game-winning trio of points.
Washington’s 19-year wait for a postseason win, and all the problems the team had faced since that 2006 victory, including on the road against the Buccaneers, came down to a matter of inches.
And the kick that hits the upright while going through the goalposts all count the same and many NFL fans thought it was the perfect ending to the exciting match.
“Screenwriters are loving things this year,” said one NFL fan.

“The Doink for Detroit, if you will,” another fan said referring to Washington’s first playoff win since 2006, which sets up a divisional round showdown against the Detroit Lions next weekend.
‘The Washington Post!!!’ said one, using as a pun a reference to the daily newspaper in the nation’s capital.
“Democracy is dying in doinkness,” said another fan, referencing the Washington Post slogan.
“That shit is going to come out if Dan Snyder still owns the team,” someone else noted about the commanders’ recent troubles.
“THE DOINK STRICT OF COLUMBIA,” someone concluded.

The Commanders were the first road team to win during Wild Card weekend, with the first four teams not to win their division all playing for losses.
Washington will attempt to play in its first NFC Championship Game since the 1991 season next Saturday when they travel to the Detroit Lions.
The Lions went 15-2 in the regular season and reached the NFC Championship Game last year.
The last spot in the Divisional round will be claimed on Monday evening by the Minnesota Vikings or the Los Angeles Rams.
Jayden Daniels once again had the Commanders in charge, with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass on fourth down to Terry McLaurin for a go-ahead goal, putting pressure on Tampa Bay to respond.
