The newest New Orleans Saint, quarterback Spencer Rattler, was only available for the team’s selection in the fifth round of the NFL Draft because the team’s general managers reportedly hated him on the Netflix reality show ‘QB1: Beyond the Lights’ .

The former Oklahoma and South Carolina star was selected No. 150 overall, ending the longest streak in NFL Draft history without a quarterback being selected as 137 players were selected between Rattler and now Bronco Bo Nothing.

Before his student days, Rattler was one of the best players in the country as part of the 2019 recruiting class and was believed to be the top-rated pro-style quarterback. 247Sports.

This resulted in a lot of attention, including from Netflix. At Pinnacle (Arizona) High School, Rattler had a reputation as the best player in his state.

And after Rattler found a home with the Saints, clips of him clearing his wide receivers during a high school practice resurfaced.

“This is a little weird to be honest: Spencer Rattler did a reality show in high school. It’s called “QB1: Beyond the Lights.” It didn’t make him look great,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said.

“And it’s unbelievable how many different teams have mentioned to me the image of him on that show, and how they can’t get it out of their heads, which I think would be a public service announcement for all 17-year-olds,” Rapoport continued. “It’s fascinating how teams weigh whether to use him.”

Rattler appeared on season three of ‘QB1: Beyond The Lights’ alongside Lance Legendre, who subsequently moved to wide receiver and plays at Louisiana, and Nik Scalzo, who played at the FCS level Samford last year.

The show lasted four seasons with Justin Fields as perhaps the biggest star to appear as a prep prospect.

Bruce Young and Anthony Richardson also appeared on the show during their high school years.

Rattler was once seen as a possible pick to be the top pick in this year’s draft. He was ousted by eventual top selection Caleb Williams in Oklahoma, and had a shaky career after transferring to South Carolina, causing his draft stock to plummet.
