Injuries have plagued the NFL through the first three weeks of the regular season, with many teams having to rely on their practice squads and depth sooner than expected.
Perhaps the most glaring example of this is the Miami Dolphins, who will be without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa indefinitely after he suffered another concussion in Week 2.
Tagovailoa’s backup, Skylar Thompson, left last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks with a rib injury and was limited in practice for most of this week.
Now Thompson will not be on Miami’s active 53-man roster for tomorrow’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that Tyler “Snoop” Huntley will be the team’s starting quarterback, with Tim Boyle as his backup.
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel named Huntley his team’s starter this week
Huntley spent most of his professional career as Lamar Jackson’s backup with the Baltimore Ravens in his first stint with the team from 2020-2023.
After Jackson missed the end of the 2022 season with a knee injury, Huntley filled in as the team’s full-time starter and ultimately earned a Pro Bowl selection.
After stints with the Browns and Ravens again earlier this season, Miami picked up Huntley due to their quarterback issues.
Now Huntley will get another chance to shine with many talented players around him like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
The Titans are winless so far this season, making Huntley an easier opponent for his first game with McDaniels’ offense.
Tagovailoa won’t be activated from injured reserve for another few weeks at the earliest, giving Huntley a nice sample size to show what he has to offer.
