Neymar’s father awkwardly backed down during his podcast appearance after initially stating it was “totally possible” his son could leave PSG to join Brazilian side Flamengo.
The timing of the car accident came as Neymar’s father was speaking with Marcao, the father of Gerson, who left Marseille to join Flamengo earlier this month.
Marcao asked if Neymar would also consider leaving France to return to Brazil, and his question received an unexpected answer.
Neymar’s father has stated that it is “totally possible” for his son to go to Flamengo
This move would see Neymar play alongside fellow Brazilian Gerson (centre), who recently left Marseille to join Flamengo.
‘What will play with Gerson in Flamengo? It’s entirely possible,” Neymar’s father said on the GV World Podcast.
However, he seemed to quickly realize what he had just said and quickly added: “It’s possible (long silence), but it’s only possible in the Brazil team.”
Neymar joined PSG for a world record transfer fee in 2017, and was expected to play a key role in the French giants’ Champions League win.
However, PSG are yet to lift the biggest prize in European club football, and Neymar is no longer PSG’s main attraction following the emergence of Kylian Mbappe and the addition of Lionel Messi.
Neymar’s father backed down quickly and believes it will be difficult for Neymar to return to Brazil due to the length of his contract at PSG.
The 30-year-old was linked with a move from Parc des Princes last summer but ended up staying and the club activated an extension clause to keep him until 2027.
With four years left on Neymar’s contract, his father has admitted that it will be “very difficult” for the midfielder to return to Brazil, but he does not rule it out entirely.
In football, anything is possible, but Neymar has a long contract with PSG. He goes until 2027. He just renewed, it’s very difficult,’ said his father.
