Neymar “wants to finish his career at PSG” despite fears he played his last game for the club after ankle surgery ended his season, with the futures of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe uncertain.
- Neymar, 31, reportedly wants to end his football career with PSG
- The Brazilian has a contract until 2027 and has promised to remain in Paris
- But there are questions about the future of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé
Neymar wants to end his career at PSG, according to a new report, despite questions about some of his colleagues following his early European exit.
The 31-year-old joined the Ligue 1 side in 2017 and has been an integral part of the Paris side that has won four league trophies in that period.
However, it has not been a great month for the Brazilian. Last week, he was ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign following necessary ankle surgery in Doha.
And PSG saw their hopes of claiming this year’s Champions League crown extinguished with a 3-0 aggregate loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Despite PSG’s well-documented struggles on and off the pitch, and rumors of significant changes to the club as they desperately seek European glory, Athletic reports that Neymar is committed to continuing his stage in Paris.
Brazilian Neymar has reportedly vowed to end his football career as a PSG player.
The 31-year-old’s season ended prematurely following ankle surgery in Doha.
The Brazilian moved from Barcelona to PSG almost six years ago, in a world record £200m deal, and his time with the club helped them increase his value to $3.2bn (£2.7bn).
There were fears his injury could have signaled his last game for PSG as he will not play again this term, but he has reportedly suggested he has no plans to leave the Parc des Princes.
He has promised his future to the club as they look to improve in Europe after reaching the 2020 Champions League final, as well as maintaining his impressive domestic run that has seen Neymar win 13 trophies in France.
Neymar’s current deal runs until 2027, when he will turn 35, so he is not an urgent concern for the club. But it’s useful to know who PSG can trust in the future, with question marks still hanging over some of their current stars.
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé have agreements with PSG that expire in the next 18 months.
Lionel Messi is only signed up for PSG’s project until the end of the current season, and Kylian Mbappe’s contract with the Ligue 1 giants expires next summer.
But PSG are also believed to be looking for new recruits to bolster their squad for next season, with Sportsmail previously reporting on a possible plan that would see them offer £175m to Manchester City to buy Erling Haaland.
Neymar has made 173 appearances in all competitions for PSG, scoring his 118th goal in a 4-3 win over Lille on February 19.
After Saturday’s 2-1 win at Brest, PSG sit ten points clear at the top of Ligue 1 on 66 points, with Marseille in second and Lens in third.
