Neymar hinted at an ongoing rift between himself and former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe after liking a post criticizing the Frenchman for leaving the Ligue 1 club.

Mbappe informed the Parisians that he will not renew his contract beyond the end of the season as he reportedly moves closer to a move to Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old is about to call time on his seven-year spell in Paris, most of which he spent with Neymar, who joined the club in the summer of 2017 for a world-record fee.

Despite coming at a lower cost – although still over £100 million – Mbappe quickly established himself as the main man at the Parc des Princes, with rumors of friction between the pair.

After leaving the French club for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal last summer, many fans expected tensions to dissipate. However, Neymar appeared to reignite their simmering feud with his recent actions on social media.

Brazilian social media account Jogada Ensaiada posted a scathing assessment of the World Cup winner, criticizing his influence at PSG and the state he will be in when he leaves.

The post was captioned: “No player should be bigger than the institution.”

‘PSG, an example of football management.’ Read the message on Instagram. “They knew how to bring together the best players and had the best team in the world. When the team started to perform well, the ego of a ‘certain Frenchman’ started to disrupt the atmosphere.

‘Mbappe started to feel left out, most of the team spoke Spanish and he threatened to leave. Not to lose his loved one, PSG started selling those who were not in line with Mbappé’s thoughts and brought in the French players he wanted.

‘After doing everything he could to ensure everything went his way, Mbappe informed PSG that he would leave the club for free at the end of the season. And in the end, this is what remains at PSG.”

The sentiment expressed in the post is certainly shared by many football fans, but it’s a rather stunning rebuke to be co-signed by a former teammate.

According to reports in Spain, Mbappe has signed a contract with Madrid and agreed a deal until 2029 with the LaLiga giants.

Mail Sport reported last week that Madrid are willing to make Mbappe the club’s top earner, surpassing the £10.3m per season they pay Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior, but the latest report claims the player will still have to take a pay cut.

Madrid will also pay a sign-on fee of around £85.5 million and open talks over what percentage of his image rights he will retain.

Meanwhile, Neymar has made his first appearance on the training pitch since his cruciate ligament injury. The Al-Hilal star shattered his anterior cruciate ligament against Uruguay while on international duty in October.
