An elderly man is fighting for his life after a stabbing in Sydney’s west.

Police were called to a house in Mockridge Avenue, Newington, at around 3am on Thursday following reports of a domestic incident.

An 80-year-old woman was found with a stab wound in her hand, along with a 90-year-old man with a stab wound in his neck.

Paramedics treated the pair before they were rushed to Westmead Hospital.

The man’s condition is critical, the woman is stable.

During the altercation, the woman also suffered a heart attack.

The incident has rocked the quiet suburb

“It’s quite scary to be honest, we’ve been here for three and a half years and we’ve never seen anything like this,” a shocked neighbor told Sunrise

“We have a little baby at home, so it’s a little scary.”

The unit complex was declared a crime scene as police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detectives remained on scene Thursday morning.
