Newington College caught up in school-camp drug scandal: Students expelled
Police have been contacted and two students have been expelled from a prestigious private school in Sydney after they were allegedly found in possession of drugs during a school camp.
A spokesperson for Newington College, a leading private boys’ school in Sydney’s west, said two students were in possession of a “THC-based product”.
“The school began a thorough investigation late last term and this investigation will continue as students return to school for the second term,” the spokesperson said.
‘The school has a detailed and strict internal policy for responding to these types of matters.’
The two male students, who attend the prestigious private boys’ school Newington College (pictured), are said to have used a THC-based product during a school camp.
The spokesperson confirmed that Newington College had contacted police about the matter and that the two students involved had left the school.
“The two students who were in possession of a THC-based product returned early from the camp and are no longer at school,” the spokesperson said.
“NSW Police have been contacted regarding possession of a THC-based product.”
The school camp in question was a five-day cadet camp at Eungai Creek, on the NSW north coast, and both Newington College and Methodist Ladies College students attended, The Daily Telegraph reports.
NSW Police and the Methodist Ladies College have been contacted for comment.
This is not the first controversy Newington College has faced in recent months, after the decision to move to co-educational education – which it announced in late 2023 – sparked backlash from some members of the school community.
