Newcastle are reportedly interested in Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann if he wants to replace Eddie Howe as manager this summer.

Howe led Newcastle to Champions League qualification, but the Magpies failed to progress out of the group stages on their return to Europe’s elite competition.

Newcastle are likely to miss out this season, sitting 15 points behind Howe’s top four and in 10th place after their 4-1 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

The Magpies face Man City in the FA Cup quarter-finals next month after beating Blackburn in the penalty shootout on Wednesday.

Newcastle buoyed by their ambitions, Saudi owners have reportedly set their sights on Nagelsmann as a possible replacement for Howe, who signed a long-term contract in August 2022.

Bild reporter Christian Falk stated that Newcastle are interested in the German national coach before the summer.

Naglesmann was appointed head coach of the European Championship hosts last September under a deal that will see him in charge until July 31, 2024.

The 36-year-old will try to lead Germany to victory in front of their own fans at the European Championship, which will end on July 14, 2024.

Falk reported that Naglesmann has not yet decided whether he will extend his contract as national coach or seek a return to club management.

Naglesmann was sacked as Bayern Munich boss last year despite losing just ten of his 84 games at the club.

He took charge of Bayern Munich in 2021, where he achieved the most success, guiding Die Roten to the Bundesliga title in 2022 and the German Super Cup in 2022 and again in 2023.

Nagelsmann has also been linked with the Liverpool job, with Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season.

Xabi Alonso remains the favorite to take charge at Anfield, with Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim also considered a contender.
