Newcastle have made a bid for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford with a bid worth around £16 million.
Mail Sport understands that talks have taken place between the clubs this week over a package presented by the Magpies. Talks are ongoing and the Championship side are pushing for closer to £20m.
Trafford, along with six others, suffered the bitter disappointment of being left out of the England squad for Euro 2024 this week. However, that gives him the freedom to manage his club’s future and he is aware of Newcastle’s interest . Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also tracked the 21-year-old.
Eddie Howe is a big admirer of the former Manchester City candidate and Newcastle sees him as competition for number 1 Nick Pope.

As Mail Sport revealed, Newcastle turned their attention to Trafford last month after being put off by Arsenal’s valuation of Aaron Ramsdale.
Missing European football is a blow in their search for a new goalkeeper, given the declining schedule. But Newcastle are still hoping to convince Trafford that St James’ Park would be the best place for his long-term development.
