Newcastle will make a third bid for Leicester’s James Maddison in January.

The super-wealthy Premier League side made two offers for the playmaker this summer worth £40 million and then £45 million, which first Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers said “may cover just three quarters of his left leg”.

And as reported by the TimeNewcastle will return to Maddison if Leicester lower their asking price during the winter transfer window, when the 25-year-old has just 18 months left on his contract.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe is keen to keep spending despite spending £215m on new players since being acquired by PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of sportswashing Saudi Arabia

The Magpies have spent a staggering £215 million on new players since being acquired by PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of the sports-washing nation of Saudi Arabia – who have an extremely questionable record of human rights abuses.

Despite this, Howe is keen to keep spending and is said to be keen to inject creativity and goals into his ailing attack, with the side drawing five of their first seven Premier League games, and sees Maddison as the solution.

The attacking midfielder was capped by England once, against Montenegro in 2019, but is currently out of favor and seems unlikely to make Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Qatar World Cup in November, despite his good club form.

Attacking midfielder Maddison, 25, would like to move to boost his England hopes

Despite Leicester being bottom of the Premier League table, Maddison has three goals and an assist, and last season 12 strikes and eight assists.

The former Norwich star would like to move to St James’ Park to increase his chances in England – with potential team-mates Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier, both regulars on the squad.

If Newcastle make a big offer, Leicester will have to weigh up whether to sell a star whose value could fall as his contract expires, or keep a key player from a potential relegation battle.
