- Kieran Trippier is said to be open to the move if Newcastle accept an offer
- Magpies will reject any offer for the defender unless it is too good to turn down
- Ivan Toney is ambitious and wants to win titles… you can’t begrudge him that! It all starts
Newcastle today rejected an initial approach from Bayern Munich for Kieran Trippier, but we understand the player is open to the move
Sources in Germany say the Bavarian club have been encouraged that the England star would be open to a move if the Magpies were to accept a bid.
However, we’re told Newcastle will resist any approach to Trippier unless the money on the table is too good to turn down. That would have to be a significant amount above the market value of a 33-year-old with 18 months left on his contract.
Newcastle are reluctant to let Trippier go and Eddie Howe sees him as central to their plans for the second half of the season. But there is clearly a chance that a move will happen in the coming days.
His signing, for £12m from Atletico Madrid two years ago, has proved transformative for the club.
Bayern Munich will test Newcastle’s resolve to retain Kieran Trippier this month
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed his intention to sign a right back earlier this month
There is no way Newcastle would be interested in Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich

Earlier this month, Tuchel – who wanted to sign Kyle Walker from Manchester City this summer – confirmed that his team hopes to strengthen Trippier’s position.
“We are looking for a right back who is strong in duels,” he said. ‘We’re going to see if something is possible.
‘Nous Mazraoui is on the African Cup, but we have also become used to Konrad Laimer as right back, even though that is not his best position.
‘If there is an opportunity in the market, we seize it. Otherwise it will stay that way.’
We’re told rumors that Newcastle are interested in Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich are untrue.
