A young mother has been left furious after a real estate agent told her she “failed” a home inspection.

Mother Samantha Smith posted a detailed video on social media explaining why an estate agent questioned her about her Newcastle home.

“I failed because I have to tidy up, I have to tidy up the toys,” she said, aiming the camera at a shelf full of toys.

“Sorry, I have to clean up the toys?” I have a one year old. Can they say that?’

“I just wrapped them up, but I have a one-year-old and he’s already got his little vacuum cleaner (toy) out.”

Ms Smith said the officer warned her that the mattress in the living room made it difficult to access other areas of the house.

Mrs. Smith then walked around the mattress and into another room to demonstrate that it was still possible to move around the house.

“My partner sleeps there because, you know, I have a one-year-old, and he gets up at 4:30 (in the morning) and I don’t want him to wake us up,” she said.

She said that a cleaner came every week to thoroughly clean the family home.

The mother said the agent told her to clean out the linen press closet and clean the ceiling fans.

“This is the only closet I can put our press and food in, because the whole house has no other closets,” she said.

‘Is that a joke? Like, what’s her business what’s in my closet?’

Mrs. Smith was also shocked that she had been told to “wash” the outside of the house.

In the video, she points out the dark-colored mold on the outside walls and roof of the house.

“That’s mold, mate, that’s black mold, I’m not going to wash that, like it’s none of my business,” she said.

“That’s taking the p*** isn’t it?”

Ms Smith said what frustrated her most was the fact that the property needed urgent repairs.

“What bothers me is that she’s also here to see what needs fixing and there’s so much here that needs fixing,” she said.

Mrs Smith then walked around the property pointing out damage including a broken section of the roof, unstable wooden decking on the terrace, rotten railing and a broken gate.

Ms. Smith said her family had lived on the property for seven years and paid $550 a week in rent.

She also said she paid $150 a week for a storage unit because their contract said they couldn’t store anything in the garage.

“I’m pretty crazy, like the fact that, you know, there are things that need fixing that are serious, like we can fall through the deck, the corner can fall off and split our heads open,” she said.

‘Our blinds are actually yellow on the other side so they’re all brittle, she wants me to fix them. As if I didn’t do the damage, the sun did.’
