- The midfielder’s 10-month ban for betting violations ends on August 27
Sandro Tonali will be eligible to play for Newcastle United again from August 27, when his 10-month betting ban expires.
The Italian midfielder was initially given an 18-month worldwide ban by the Italian Football Federation in October last year, but his sentence was subsequently reduced thanks to his cooperation with investigators in his home country.
Tonali will miss Newcastle’s first two Premier League games of the new season but is allowed to train with his team-mates.
Newcastle’s players are currently in Germany for pre-season training, with Tonali pictured on Wednesday cycling near the club’s training ground.
Tonali wore a team training shirt and shorts, but it was the shirt on his wrist that stood out.

The 24-year-old is believed to have been wearing a Richard Mille Rafael Nadal watch, which can cost more than £500,000.
It is currently for sale via montro.com for £449,835.05, but that excludes the import charge of £86,428.07.
Several fans spotted the luxury watch on Tonali’s wrist in another photo and shared their findings and opinions on social media.
One of them tweeted: ‘Tonali is wearing his Richard Mille Rafael Nadal watch which is worth a huge price [price] of over £400,000, in the dressing room! – these boys are rolling in money!’
Another comment read: ‘If you want an idea of how ridiculously much Premier League footballers get paid, the watch Sandro Tonali casually wears during Newcastle training is a Richard Mille Rafa Nadal edition. It costs half a million pounds. Or, for him, three weeks wages.’

He scored one goal in 12 games against Newcastle last season before suspension stopped him
Tonali’s contract at Newcastle is actually worth £120,000-a-week, but he has not received this amount in full during his suspension after taking a voluntary salary cut.
He made just 12 appearances for the Magpies last season after joining from AC Milan for £52million in July 2023.
