Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey ‘on the verge of sealing shock move to Besiktas’, where he would join Dele Alli, who is going through a nightmare in Turkey, as the 30-year-old weighs his future at St James’ Park

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is reportedly about to seal a shock transfer to Turkish club Besiktas.

The 30-year-old is currently out of action with a calf injury and has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle, casting serious doubts on his future.

A move to Turkey would see Shelvey link up with Everton loan Dele Alli, who is having a nightmare spell at Besiktas.

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is reportedly about to seal a shock move to Besiktas.

If he were to move to Turkey, Shelvey would join Dele Alli, who is having a nightmare in Besiktas.

Besiktas is in talks with Newcastle and Shelvey over a possible move away from St James’ Park, according to sport arena.

Talks are understood to have been positive despite the midfielder being injured until the end of February or March.

There has been much speculation about Shelvey’s future at Newcastle and with the Magpies continuing to spend heavily, the 30-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, may decide to leave to find minutes elsewhere.

If Shelvey moves to Besiktas, he’ll hope he does better than Alli’s time in Turkey.

It’s been a miserable spell for the former Tottenham star with Alli struggling to make an impact and making just 10 appearances for the club, despite the fanfare his arrival has received.

Shelvey has fallen down the pecking order at St James’ Park and is currently out with a calf injury.

Besiktas reportedly wants to send Alli back to Everton due to his problems, but any return seems unlikely as there is not believed to be a break clause in his loan deal.

The Turkish giants are hoping Shelvey will have a more positive impact, should he decide to leave St James’ Park.

Newcastle continue to invest in their squad with Eddie Howe, sporting director Dan Ashworth and head of recruiting Steve Nickson are drawing up a target list, which Sportsmail understands includes Chelsea’s Jorginho.

Leicester’s Youri Tielemans has long been a target and continues to be of interest, but younger names are also in the frame.

France under-21 midfielders Nice’s Khéphren Thuram and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Kouadio Koné, both 21, have received excellent reports from Newcastle’s scouting department. Chelsea are also interested in that pair.
