Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson is set to join Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £35million with a player coming the other way, Post Sport understands.
Anderson, 21, is expected to join Forest on a permanent deal after the two clubs held talks in recent days and a medical could now follow.
St James’ Park figures have been battling to avoid a points deduction from the Premier League for failing to comply with profit and sustainability rules and they must hand over their duties before tonight’s accounting period deadline.
Fears that they would have to reluctantly sell Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon were effectively allayed after a bid of around £33 million from Brighton for Yankuba Minteh was accepted. Moreover, Anderson is now on the verge of leaving the club.
The name of the player who will swap the City Ground for Tyneside is not yet known.
As first reported by Mail sportAnderson was discussed in negotiations with Forest and Minteh was also offered to the club before Brighton emerged as frontrunners.
Newcastle held talks with Liverpool over a shock deal for Gordon, while Chelsea inquired about Isak, both exclusively revealed by Mailsport.
The club’s board and manager Eddie Howe did not want to lose either player, but they agreed that they had to trade to avoid points deductions.
Violating the PSR restrictions would likely see them deducted 10 points.
Both attackers now look set to stay at Newcastle, with Minteh and Anderson leaving for significant fees, totalling almost £70m between them.
More to follow.
