Newcastle are hoping a possible move for Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen could be aided by the London club’s pursuit of Torino defender Perr Schuurs.
The Danish centre-back joined Crystal Palace from Lyon in 2021 for £17 million after a season in the Premier League where he impressed on loan at Fulham.
The Magpies are looking to bolster their squad as they prepare for a season in the Champions League, and Eddie Howe has a number of moves planned over the summer period.
AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali is believed to be the club’s number 1 transfer target, and sporting director Dan Ashworth and head Steve Nickson are in talks with Milan executives over the potential £55m move.
Newcastle have also signed Gambian teenager Yankuba Minteh from Danish side OB Odense, but the 18-year-old is expected to be loaned out to Feyenoord for next season.
Newcastle have stepped up their interest in Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen
With the addition of Perr Schuurs from Torino, Palace could be more willing to let the trusted player go
Andersen still has a three-year contract with the Eagles, which could see Palace trying to ensure that if they lose the player it is for a large fee, which could hamper Newcastle’s pursuit of the player.
Howe has £75million to spend over the summer term, which could limit his options as he reforms his squad ahead of the 2022-23 season.
But his efforts could be aided by Palace’s growing interest in Schuurs, who has impressed in his first season with Torino following his move from Ajax.
Schuurs was initially identified as a potential replacement for Marc Guehi, who has consistently sparked interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle have also checked Hertha Berlin striker Derry Scherhant.
The 20-year-old made 10 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring once, as he made his way into senior positions after a stint in the German capital’s B-squad.
There, the player scored 16 goals in his debut season, and his acquisition by Newcastle could see him join the ranks of developing players the club has chosen to invest in.
Scherhant will reportedly cost the Magpies around £1.5 million.
